Sunstruck.

FIERCE mourning dove chased a bluejay off the sunflower seeds!

It's mourning dove mating season in western Massachusetts, and the background noise of our days is amorous cooing. Just check out the smoulder on this critter.
A beige mourning dove is turning their head to the side, with one bright black eye facing the camera. They have gray wings, and their ear feathers are puffed out. There is a line down their belly, as if they have sucked in their belly in order to puff out their chest and look more attractive.

Look who is laying her eggs not only on the edge of our driveway but right by the road!
A small alligator snapping turtle is backed up to some soft, dug up dirt, laying her eggs. Her left foreleg is on pavement. She is leathery and reminiscent of a turtle-shaped dinosaur. Her large shell tilts upward toward her head, and her head is partially withdrawn, emphasizing the suspicious look in her black bead of an eye.

I started cooing at the grosbeak about how pretty she looked with her crest raised and made the dog jealous. But look at her!

Friend's kid is a herpetologist in training. On Pride Day, she caught a garter snake in my yard while wearing a shirt with rainbow snakes.
