#NoKings

It’s our duty to dream of alternatives to the single one the king insists is the only option.

And spotted a Star Wars sign today that made me incredibly happy to stand in the blistering heat some more.

Back at it with interfaith advocates, this time in the Ag Committee, who are trying to take $313 billion from our most essential food assistance program. They plan shifting costs to families when prices are already surging. Thanks @pingree.house.gov for your clear and damning pushback just now.

With the #WashingtonInterfaith community today at the Ways & Means, Ag, and Energy & Commerce markups to protest cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and more, all to pay for tax cuts that do nothing for the average family.

“Get your damn hands off SNAP” - @adams.house.gov. Thanks to the speakers at the #SNAPMatters rally outside the Senate today. In 2008 SNAP helped my family. If this were the political environment then, Republicans would have turned their back on my family, but instead are doing so to families today.

Day 4 was a wild one. Let’s talk about the positives before the… other stuff. Two great events on the roles of religious institutions in preventing violence against women and changing social norms. Then a solidarity march with for the people of Palestine outside the U.S. mission.

Day 2 was a bust because food poisoning… never eating chipotle again. But that didn’t stop us on day 3! We listened to how we can reclaim religious narratives for gender equity, heard from Sudanese civil society actors doing incredible work on the ground, and attended a UN Youth Forum.

My second #CSW69 event of the day was a side event speaking about the occupation and war on Palestine and its significant impact on Palestinian women and girls. I’m proud to be part of a group that continues to express Palestinian solidarity and action.

My first event was a feminist disarmament education presentation and its means to advance peace, justice, and security. The academic side of my brain is delighted.

A lovely book talk on @peterbeinart.bsky.social’s Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza, with @karenattiah.bsky.social moderating. And only one interruption!

Finally, some signs of defying the oligarchy. Protests against the illegal seizure by Elon Musk.

I made a faith-based #advocacy starter pack for #Bluesky. Mostly comprised of people and organizations advocating federal law makers, but many have state and local wings too! The list will be maintained and updated!

#HR9495 is up for a second vote this week after failing under suspension of the rules last week. This bill, no matter who is in charge of the executive branch, would grant them unilateral power to strip organizations of their nonprofit status. Read more below and call your house member! #advocacy
