Happy November to this guy, 11 months indoors with us now after a sojourn on the mean streets of Brooklyn. He definitely started out as a housecat but something bad must have happened to his people
Image: Slim, an all-black cat whose coat is thick and shiny, sits on a white fleece blanket on a bed and looks up at us like “this is all very nice but where’s me dinner?”. He looks handsome and demanding. Extras: Slim has FIV and nearly died last Nov/Dec until a very kind TNR person took him in. That person’s foster bailed out at the last minute, on Boxing Day, and so we ended up with a terrified, wounded cat for Christmas. The rest is history. He’s a huge lovebug who will nevertheless yell the house down if his dinner is one (1) minute late

Bruce, a large grey and white pit/mastiff mix, sits regally inside a modernist spherical chair—the inside of which is dark brown velvet and the outside of which is paneled aluminum—on top of a cream blanket. He is not allowed in that chair but looks singularly unrepentant

NYC (and nearby)! The rescue I volunteer for just took in a sweet,
middle-aged small pup (15lbs) who was abandoned in Brooklyn. He’s neutered and good natured; his people must have suffered some catastrophe. Can you foster him? If so, @ me and I will get you in touch with the rescuer! Pls RT!

Current status:
The inside of a hot oven, with two racks. On the bottom one is a lattice-top apple pie in a glass pie dish about 10 minutes into its cooking time. There is a beat-up pizza tray under it to catch drips because caramelized sugar is no fun to clean up

Chart from St Louis Fed / BLS showing average residential electricity prices over the past 10 years. Price stays in the 13-14 cents/kilowatthour range from 2015 until about end 2021 and then it just goes pretty much constantly upwards to 19 cents/kWh now

His name is Odie and he’s with the rescue I volunteer for. (You can also just adopt him!)

Brief reminder that Cardinal Scipione Borghese devoted an entire room to his “Sleeping Hermaphroditus” statue and commissioned Bernini to make that marble mattress the (Roman) statue lies on
Oh no Hermaphroditus’ pants fell down around their knees! And they are “asleep” and have an ass that is 11/10, what could POSSIBLY be the message behind this piece of sculpture, it is a mystery. Also props to the sculptor for some excellent feet

Oh we were on that bullshit well into the 1800s. See St Paul’s of Liège (Belgium), which first commissioned Joseph Geefs to sculpt Lucifer

When Joe delivered it in 1842 (real fuckin sexy, etc) the Bishop was like “oh no!” so re-commissioned his brother Guillaume, who… made it sexier
Two sexy Lucifer sculptures, the left-hand Twink Satan by Joseph Geefs from 1842, the right-hand Twunk Satan replacement by his brother Guillaume Geefs, 1848 The commission was originally awarded to Geefs' younger brother Joseph, who completed L'ange du mal in 1842 and installed it the following year. It generated controversy at once and was criticized for not representing a Christian ideal. The cathedral administration declared that "this devil is too sublime." The local press intimated that the work was distracting the "pretty penitent girls" who should have been listening to the sermons. Bishop van Bommel soon ordered the removal of L'ange du mal, and the building committee passed the commission for the pulpit sculpture to Guillaume Geefs, whose version was installed at the cathedral permanently in 1848.
