Another read is Cignetti as a metaphor for climate change. We should've stopped him in the 80s, knew it was bad in the 2000s and made half-hearted attempts to stop it (Nick Saban refusing to promote him past WR coach), but now it's here, it's too late, and it'll mercifully be over in 10-20 years.
