In British English it’s pronounced Guh-Noo, with the G, because of this sketch and song youtu.be/9k7IQLNDT0k?... by Michael Flanders, who was frustrated that someone with a GNU parking plate kept using his wheelchair-adapted parking space! Before that, the G was silent in common parlance!

Hawk absolutely improves as that series goes on but I understand not wanting to persevere. I’ve enjoyed Alexandra Rowland’s books recently - although more fantasy than history. I too am yet to find a peer of KJ Charles in historical m/m!
