I went to see Kae Tempest in Manchester last night and it was the most life-affirming wonderful show. He never stopped - so many words - and then he performed all the poems again. Reduced to tears. Jacob Alon was amazing too - utter vulnerability. First gig at the Albert Hall is one I’ll remember.

A nice gentle dose of Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing bingeing to relax this evening after a day of peacefully protesting against the fascist thugs who came to Sheffield today. Refugees are welcome here.

Are there any architects on here, or generally people who know what the feature on the bottom left of this image is. A sort of drainage archway perhaps? It’s on a Victorian former grammar school building with lots of similar holes! Many thanks.

I think my favourite. The Ha Ha Bonk Book. Coming to it now I can see how much it has influenced what makes me laugh (and how I attempt to make others laugh!) I read it so often as a child and the poor book is really falling apart some 40+ years later. ‘Each Peach Pear Plum’ is an equal contender.

Tramlines 2025. First time I’ve been to the Hillsborough Park incarnation. Highlights: John Grant on his birthday, CMAT wanting to be a cowboy, In-Here Brothers and Oktoberfest Band for providing the dancey fun, locals Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra with Tracks and Everly Pregnant Brothers.

Another cultural strategy activation event in Sheffield today - focussing on creative health and wellbeing. Lovely to meet lots of new and old contacts @sadacca.bsky.social@sheffcitycouncil.bsky.social - so many people doing amazing work in the city and region.

Well that’s a very bleak play - A Streetcar Named Desire @sheffieldtheatres.bsky.social - really well acted by an excellent cast - superb subtle movement, set design and sound - a very tough watch.

Such a well-attended Create Sheffield event this morning about children and young people in the city’s new Culture Strategy. Lovely to hear Sundas’ performances, chat to colleagues and meet lots of people making change.

Loved the Derrick Greaves exhibition @sheffieldmuseums.bsky.social - really astonishing later works and I really enjoyed hearing him talk in the very personal little films in there. A shame he’s no longer here to see it.

Really useful - and thought-/action-provoking Museum Carbon Literacy training today with Alison Criddle from @musdevnorth.bsky.social@carbonliteracy.bsky.social All the more urgent given the disregard for climate and nature crises by our government and global powers. No culture on a dead planet.

‘Death and the King’s Horseman by Nobel Prize Winner Wole Soyinka at the Crucible this evening. Wonderful, thought-provoking and harrowing. Superb costumes and set, music, movement and song. I didn’t know anything about it beforehand but Sheffield’s Utopia Theatre have remedied that. Thank you.

@andrewquintman.bsky.social - Hello Andrew. I don’t know if you recall but back in 2018 you very kindly translated this for me (from Leh) when I asked for help - but I can’t access Twitter now and wondered if you might possibly be able to remind me what it is…? Thank you so much for your help.

It wasn’t in a dark corner when I went last week. It’s hung alongside the new crowd funded painting ‘Women’s Work’ by Florence Claxton. I always visit when I’m there as I did a lovely project based on FMB’s ‘Work’ when I worked there in 2007, bringing it to life with actors on digital interactive.

Superb production and George Akid’s short notice Nurse Nellie was absolutely astounding! Huge credit to him and to Ethan Casey-Clothier for Muddling so brilliantly. The band were fab too - loved their attempts to get the audience to clap on the off beat - it even worked for a bit. Oh yes it did!
