There are many benefits to the general digitization of media, especially for those of us living in apartments. But come the time of year when people are asking me for wish lists, I miss being able to fill it out with CDs and DVDs. It was so much easier to ask for things. (Or buy things for others.)

Yes, I am! And it's wonderful! (Even if I must accept that canonically, I am most likely dead in this universe. Oops!)
Are you listening to The Harbingers yet?

It's 22 on the Apple Fiction charts(!!!), which suggests that a lot of you are!

But if you haven't discovered the show yet, now's the moment to tune in! Help us crack that Top 20 ahead of the weekend!

Exercises in Sound will be on break until after the holidays. Those last two episodes took more time to produce than the typical episode, and I've eaten up my buffer. I have some other deadlines demanding my attention, and honestly, I could use a little break anyway.

But I'll be back in January!

Y'all, my band @ghosttour.bsky.social dropped our first full-EP that we recorded together in March of this year. I cannot understate how much it's meant to me to have a chance to do this kind of thing again. Would mean a lot if you listen!

Version two of the meta-autobiographical version of the Exercises in Sound script. In the director's clip, you'll hear James express some self-consciousness about asking Felix to perform an irreverent version-but this one actually sounds most like how I heard it in my head while writing it.
Take two on the Autobiography script!

Last week I posted the first version of a take on the script where Character B (Felix Trench) is self-aware, and gives a metafictional monologue about me as the author of the work.

In honor of his passing, I think it's vital that we take a moment to recall the glorious comedy of that time Dick Cheney accidentally shot his friend in the face, soon to be followed by said friend publicly apologizing for having been shot in the face by Dick Cheney.

In ep 7 of Two Thousand and Late, there's a moment where Harper (@laurenshippen.com) goes on a rant, where her feelings get muddled with those of her personal demon, Havoc (also Lauren Shippen), with not just the demon's syntax and vocabulary slipping through, but also just a touch of her accent...

So, did I just slip probably the most personal and confessional writing I've ever done into the middle of my weird sound design experiment?

Yes, I did.

This one is a long time coming.

Special thanks to @felixtrench.com for bringing this to life!

I'm reading about the difference between "impulsive" and "compulsive" behavior. I'm looking at clinical usage here, specifically because while I think there's a common understanding of compulsive behavior as a clinical concept, impulsive behavior is more often viewed as a personality flaw. #adhd

Proud to see my local bookstore, where I spent several happy years working, supporting The Prison Books Program, where I currently volunteer a few nights each month! Buying the program books directly from their wish list is *very* helpful.
The right to read is extremely circumscribed in America's prisons & even just getting books into them can be difficult. So, in honor of #BannedBooksWeek all orders from our Prison Book Program wish list will trigger a matching donation. Order here: portersquarebooks.com/wishlist/bri...

My sleep is so fucked right now. I haven't been able to get to sleep before 5/6 AM most nights, and get up at 7:15 to see J off to school before going back to bed. The one time I got to sleep by 2:00AM (which I'd be perfectly happy with on average), I also slept until 2:00PM, so that helped nothing.

Two recent episodes played with narration again, this time flipping the planes of reality--rather than Characters A and B being in the physical plane while the narrators provide voiceover, it's the other way around. The narrators are having real interactions, while the characters are abstracted.

In two recent versions of Exercises in Sound, I focused on ways of using music to create different types of tension. The music in both of these is drawn from the original composition by Katherine Seaton that you already hear every episode! So, let me tell you a little more about the music itself:
