Speaker Shekarchi says he spoke about the political climate and how it will impact CVS with its CEO, David Joyner, today.

“I want CVS to stay in Rhode Island,” he said.

CVS’s handling of the opioid epidemic is one of the expected critiques of Gov. McKee’s campaign against challenger Helena Foulkes

Speaker Shekarchi when asked why he won’t impose penalties on towns who do not comply with the state’s 30-year law that mandates a 10% minimum of low and moderate income housing inventory in each state:

“My style of governing is different from President Trump’s.”

Speaker Shekarchi: “When Donald Trump does something good for the State of Rhode Island, I’m going to say thank you. If he does something bad… I’m going to fight that.”

He said the state “does not have the ability to fight the federal government on every single issue.”

Speaker Shekarchi says he “totally disagrees” with Gov. McKee that Rhode Island has enough money for the Washington Bridge.

“We cannot allocate every single RIDOT dollar into the Washington Bridge,” he tells @danmcgowan.bsky.social at #RHODEMAPLIVE.

The business’s name — if it had one — has been lost in history, much like the story of Bernoon and his oyster house. Yet, we know it did well because of his will, which I found in the city's archives in Providence City Hall.

For this story, I had to dig into some serious archives and maps of the city. Mr. Bernoon's establishment was located on Town Street, which is now South Main Street, near the site of the old Custom House.

For example, the state acquired the former Charlesgate nursing home for $6.85m. Now it’s sheltering 57 homeless families with 150 children. This week, older adults 55+ also moved in.

This is part of a broader effort, the governor told me, “to control some real estate” and open more beds.
