Building a hype doc was one of the best things I decided to do when I was at Square. I remember at the time that it helped me both stay focused on my goals and keep myself accountable -- but I'm finding now that it has taken me only an afternoon to "remember" all the things I did that are worth […]

It's been 15+ years since I graduated from Georgia Tech and I've just now hung my diploma on a wall.

Eek, I just replied to a recruiter's e-mail!

My plan was always to wrap up my career break at the end of the year. While I definitely feel a strong desire to "get back to work" (whatever that turns out to be), it feels strange to think I might have a regular 9-5 job again next year.

Woo! Just passed my PPL check ride! Now I finally get to fly for fun!

Hopefully the third time's the charm. My checkride is scheduled for Tuesday and the weather forecast is currently perfect. Crossing my fingers that I won't have any more weather-induced reschedules!

Today's Advent of Code problem was pretty brutal! I brute forced the solution to part 2, after spending way too long trying to come up with a more optimal solution without success. Most of the problems in my input were very fast to solve, but one took over an hour!

Taking a quick peek at Reddit […]

I decided to purge some of my older and unused digital accounts today. It's refreshing when the process is straightforward!

TrueCar's process was strange though. For some reason they ask for all of your PII in the request asking for them to... delete […]

Tuesday is still a little far in the future for the weather forecast to be very reliable, but it's looking like I might have to reschedule my checkride AGAIN because of weather.

Fanciest coffee I've ever had in my life. I wasn't gutsy enough to try their competition coffee, but it did sound very interesting! Very glad I made the stop at Glitch in Tokyo.

Well it's a good thing our bags were packed and we were already ready to go, otherwise the fire in our hotel may very well have caused us to miss our train! Hope it turns out to be nothing more than some burned food.

This presentation about a new hangar development at PDK is weird. It centers on noise and pollution from repositioning flights as a key benefit, but otherwise doesn't touch on what the county will gain or give up for the project. I wasn't at the meeting where this was discussed, but I do want to […]

I have been really annoyed by Goodreads for a while. The social component is incredibly strange to me, and it ultimately promotes very strange reviews. It's also an awful discovery platform. I really only use it as a glorified spreadsheet for tracking what I've read.

After spending a few […]

I'm finally reading Careless People, and wow is that book really making me want to delete my Facebook account.

I actually deleted my original account in 2010 or so, but ended up feeling like I needed to have one to keep in touch with people. I don't know if that's really turned out to be true.

It's WILD that a movie-style heist of jewely at the Louvre happened today. I was literally in the same room only a few days ago! I didn't take any photos directly of the items that were stolen, but they were partially visible in a couple photos I took.

Stumbling onto a rally and listening to Zohran Mamdani speak, while aimlessly walking around NYC, is definitely the coolest thing I've done on this trip.

We've had great flying weather for like the entire past month and a half. And of course the day of my checkride, we are blessed with low ceilings. Oh well. Weather has been very uncooperative throughout all of my flight training. Hopefully I can get another date soon.

I made my own VHF antenna and successfully checked in to a net tonight! It's not pretty, but it works surprisingly well. Now I just want to make more!

Trump made a sensitive post on Truth Social and later deleted it, leading some people to speculate whether it was a DM accidentally made public.

Truth Social uses a fork of Mastodon without federation.

Mastodon's DM interface is notoriously tricky, and many people accidentally make them public […]

I've had a raspberry pi for like 5 years and finally put it to use. I've got it set up running Direwolf and Pat, configured to act as a connected packet digipeater for my handheld radio. I can also connect to it over wifi from my phone or laptop to send Winlink packet messages over radio, either […]
