I've seen authoritative responses you people wouldn't believe. SRV records on fire off the shoulder of ISC BIND. I watched CNAMEs glitter in the dark near the Default Gateway. All those zone files will be lost in time, like TXTs in rain. Time To Live expired.

Hi there, we're a dark, surreal sci-fi comedy podcast featuring the unlikely adventures of a forlorn man, his laptop (which is infested by a self-absorbed artificial intelligence), a cartoon alien fuzzball, and a mysterious woman with inexplicable telepathic abilities.

You can binge the […]

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

Source code and a downloadable app to try it yourself […]

"sideloading" is a stupid made up term invented to delegitimize installing software.
Heres a bunch of other things I'm doing while "sidestepping" some supposed central authority:
- sideshopping (buying stuff from a store that isn't amazon)
- sidedining (eating or making food that isn't from […]

"Sideloading" is the rentseeker word for "being able to run software of your choosing on a computing device you purchased". There is no reasonable case for an operating system developer having a say over what programs you run on your hardware.

If they don't pay, that's fine. It's open source and frankly everything they ask for can be found in the open already. But I think they want answers from someone that speaks for curl and then darnit, I'm not going to do that for free to a huge commercial leach company.

I've met a fair number racists and "antiwoke" people; I can see how those (odious) MAGA policies would pander to that part of the base.

I've also met people who think the federal budget should be cut or that the US spends too much on foreign aid. Ditto the above.

But I have *never*, ever, met […]

Reminder: if you predicted half the things happening now (threatening to take Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal; lawless mass firings; complete defiance of Congressional prerogatives; mass pardons of violent supporters) even a couple of years ago, Serious Thinkers would have dismissed you.

A chilling observation that's been kinda overlooked in the mayhem generated by the cowardly ambush at the White House yesterday. From a reader on LinkedIn:

How bad are things in the White House right now?

The Associated Press and Reuters weren’t allowed in the Oval Office to cover the […]

I think it's also critical not just to condemn Trump's and Vance's disgraceful treatment of Zelensky in the Oval Office, but also to reject the administration's implicit framing of US assistance as being about getting the "best deal" for us.

Aid to Ukraine is not a business deal. It is about […]

one thing we’ve been learning since we started selling print zines a few years ago is that there are a bunch of EU regulations/taxes and trying to navigate them as a tiny business outside the EU is very confusing. we've made a lot of progress but it takes a lot of our time.
