'The NHS and the care sector would have collapsed long ago without the thousands of workers who’ve come to the UK from overseas.'

Earlier this week Sunderland became a Music City and the council had a debate to recognise the excellent Culture in our city.

I spoke to say it’s important to celebrate and harness the ‘small c’ culture and thank volunteers in Southwick for strengthening our cultural identity with their hard work!

A great example of joint working between @unison.org.uk and our Sunderland Labour council 👏👏 ❤️💜

It was a pleasure to attend the event today, put on by the City of Sunderland UNISON branch in conjunction with the @annefranktrustuk.bsky.social, Sunderland City Council and Together for Children.
We are delighted that Sunderland City Council have signed UNISON's Anti-Racism Charter today at an event organised by our City of Sunderland LG branch.

Equalities lead at Sunderland Council, Cllr Alison Smith signed the charter on behalf of the council alongside Branch Secretary Diane Peacock.
