Have you explored our most recent #StoryMap on the 2023 Afghan earthquakes?

These earthquakes left significant impacts, destroying lives and infrastructure. Nomadic pastoralists like the Kuchi faced greater impacts, already displaced by past #naturaldisasters.

Today's dissected #GEO term is Fault Lines.

Fault Lines = A break in the Earth's crust where movement has occurred.

We mapped fault lines in #Afghanistan to assess its heightened earthquake risk following the 2023 quakes.

Today's dissected #GIS term is a Choropleth Map.

A Choropleth Map = A map showing variations in a single variable.

The map below shows the different livelihood levels in Afghanistan through colourful hexagons.

We included the map in our #30DayMapChallenge: www.alcis.org/30-day-map-challenge

It's day 2 of breaking down #GIS terms, and today we're looking at #NDVI.

NDVI = Normalised Difference Vegetation Index. We've used it to quantify crop health in #Afghanistan, which can be seen through the map below.

This Friday is World Education Day! We're celebrating by breaking down GIS + tech terms.

Buffer: An area within a set distance around specific features.

In Uganda, we used buffers to visualise distances between food distribution points and huts accurately.

Can #GIS and #geospatial analysis aid in developing community, improving agricultural yields, and improving the environment?

What if we told you that a recent, #USAID funded project managed to achieve all three?
