i truly don't see what the problem is with just leaving it unexplained. they're movies. they are not documents of history. if Legend of Zelda players can handle their stories being unconnectable, so can people who like to watch dumb campy British spy movies

I love the idea of applying this same logic to other serialized characters in fiction.

"Well, Robin Hood was just a fox, so how do you explain why Kevin Costner is a man now, huh?!"

no, you have to explain to baffled clients how it can be that there is now a new person called "regional manager" even though they all know that Regional Manager has died

also, fretting over the continuity of these things is so weird! like... Casino Royale was an origin story, and obviously couldn't work as a sequel to any of the previous movies, even though it clearly took place decades after them. so what? who cares! the dude uses shoe phones and cufflink guns!

i think the problem with the 60s reboot idea (which i like) is that the Bond movies are advertising for certain car and technology brands as much as they are movies

The left gets blamed for having fringe views that become associated with the party writ large - but this sort of capitulation, which is wholly the work of the “responsible center” and absolutely backed by leadership, is so much more damning in the eyes of the public.

This is exactly why people hate the Democrats. They think they’re just electoral opportunists who don’t stand for anything - a view regularly confirmed by the actions of elected Democrats.
