Been busy scanning suitcases of family photos. This is my 2x Great Grandfather, Richard Cadbury Barrow (1827-1894), who was the Mayor of #Birmingham in 1888. His cousin, John Cadbury, transferred the family tea/coffee business to him in 1849, so he could concentrate on the manufacture of chocolate!

Sketches from the iyatraQuartet's uplifting album launch @citylit.bsky.social. My fave song is Beatriz, which was inspired by trobairitz (female troubadour) Beatritz de Dia. It was sung brilliantly in #Occitan by George Sleightholme. More sketches and info here artofjazz.blogspot.com/2025/05/iyat...

No drawing today but here's all the little sketches I did while sitting in the café Le Recepteur. It was a great place to sketch the local characters. Thank you to everyone who offered support over the past two weeks, I've had limited access to the Internet so will go back and read everything #paris

One last walk very early this morning before I jump on a Eurostar. It included the aftermath of the crazy ice storm yesterday, with leaves everywhere, dead pigeons in the street, Jesus Loves You socks, and one final look at the Eiffel Tower. Walk with me at youtu.be/yZBv43_PqsA #Paris

It's a one person lift here in the building. I get glimpses of the people using it through the little narrow window. There was a big storm today, with hail, and shards of ice that knocked the leaves off the trees and killed a few pigeons. #dailysketch #art #drawing #sketch #Paris #lift #voyeur

I headed to the Pont Mirabeau this morning, the Seine was flat as a pancake, calm and serene. As usual a typically obscure dip into 1960s showbiz, including the actress who played Tante Georgette in the educational US TV series French in Action. These two were having so much fun, while everyone else seemed to be getting photos taken on the Pont de Bir-Hakeim their shouts echoed along the whole length of the bridge. #dailysketch #art #drawing #sketch #Paris #cycling #freespirit

Wandered down to the Seine, the Pont de Bir-Hakeim was beautiful in the dawn light. Then I found the tinkling home of René Urtreger, whose dexterous digits you can hear on the improvised soundtrack for Louis Malle’s 1958 masterpiece Ascenseur pour l’échafaud. youtu.be/vCd7qUmy6CY #Paris

Sweeper on the backstairs in Rue des Vignes. A quiet day here.
I'll cook myself a nice dinner and have a chat with Nat.
Two more full days left, from a difficult start the days now have been flying by. #dailysketch #art #drawing #sketch #Paris #mayday #reflection #thinking

On each walk I like to choose which house I'd like to live in. Today it was Virginia Vee's apartment, we know her as Virginia Peters, one third of the American vocal trio The Peters Sisters. Her pad is opposite the Jardins du Trocadéro with a view of the Eiffel Tower. youtu.be/DD3vUxE2_ZQ #Paris

My room here is 3 floors up and opens onto a quiet inner courtyard. My desk is beside the window and as I look out in the morning I can see a mum brushing a child's unruly hair and usually a man pops up in his boxer shorts. I suppose it's the same sight wherever you are in the world. #art #Paris

My morning walk around Boulainvilliers took me from Ye-ye singers to a member of the intelligence network Le Musée de l’Homme, a resistance group created by intellectuals and academics during WW2. Watch here for some fabulous keystone busts too youtu.be/TCGCgUOGMok?... #Paris

Awning Shadow 11am Pastis.
I'm out tonight at the Chaillot Théâtre national de la Danse, just on the Trocadero. Going to see a showcase of students doing contemporary Jazz dance, chamber music, opera, and impromptu theatre. #dailysketch #art #drawing #sketch #Paris #cafe #pastis #shadow #heatwave

Around the Théâtre du Ranelagh are the homes of directors Claude Chabrol, the "French Hitchcock" and Marcel Camus, who jazz lovers like me will know for his film Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus). The smells of the bakeries are so divine when I'm walking around 7am. Film is here youtu.be/ygGy0Rz0luE

This morning on the Avenue de Versailles I saw a woman walking to work with a cat on her shoulders. So I couldn't resist doing a sketch. It's been a lovely day, I walked up to the Trocadero this afternoon, and sat in the park. #dailysketch #art #drawing #sketch #Paris #cafe #cat #dog

On my walk today I saw the Berlin Wall (or a slice of it), the Statue of Liberty (or a 1/4 scale version), and the Eiffel Tower. I started at the Radio France, which I visited last night for a concert (Mendelssohn and Schumann), and ended on the Île aux Cygnes. Watch here - youtu.be/EhpRUM0exmU?...
