#INTERACT

Finally, we tested several #sampling efforts to find out the best sampling strategy in order to reflect #intraindividual variability in population and community trait-based studies. Generally, accounting for several #ramets per clone emerged as the best strategy.
October 3, 2025 at 11:02 AM
We also explored the potential environmental causes of #intraindividual variability across species. We found little relationship with local #climatic variables except for SLA. Most likely, microclimate is playing a role here.
October 3, 2025 at 11:02 AM
Within each species, we found very large values of #intraindividual variability. Sometimes, the variability within the individual reached, by far, greater values than the variability across #genotypes or #populations.
October 3, 2025 at 11:02 AM
We found that a significant amount of variability occurred within the individual (both between and within #ramets of the same genetic individual) when looking across species

Already home after a wonderful #ITEX meeting with lots of inspiring talks and conversations.
Thanks a lot to the Gothenburg organising crew, and to all the people that made it possible!

April 3, 2025 at 12:49 PM
The species show relatively similar #traits and #encroaching behaviour. However, J.communis shows a much higher #recruiting ability than J.sabina, while the later is characterised by a #clonal behaviour that leads to old persisting individuals (3/)
April 3, 2025 at 12:41 PM
We analysed their #traits, #growth, #phenology and #population dynamics along an #elevation gradient, to investigate whether these would explain their distinct biogeographic performance (2/)

New study out by @geovegub.bsky.social !!
#Juniperus is a genus of conifers that includes species with contrasting distribution patterns, such as J.communis –widespread– and J.sabina –restricted. In the #Pyrenees these two species co-occur (1/)
April 3, 2025 at 12:41 PM
Yet, (2) the contrasting responses to #drought by neighbouring plants was explained by small differences in plant size, most probably related to the size of their root system. (3) Plant age or prior growth were not related to plant responses to the extreme drought (4/)
March 21, 2025 at 9:13 AM
After drone #remotesensing, #root excavations and #dendrochronological analyses we determined that (1) at community scale, plants at higher elevation were more prone to show damage (3/)
March 21, 2025 at 9:13 AM
We observed that neighbouring Calluna vulgaris individuals responded very differently to #drought. Some #died, others showed extensive #damage, and others remained #healthy (2/)
