Headcanon: Their species are social parasites. They basically get other species to adopt them and care for them. They evolved the “jiggle gene” to use ridiculous jiggle physics to encourage other species to adopt them.

That there wouldn’t be a place in Alaric’s life. Guys rebuilt the Miner Captain how many times? Even if Kira suddenly came back to the world of the living it would have no effect on how Alaric feels about Shal, not that bad guys aren’t gonna prey on that insecurity.
