I was a software developer for many years and later a teacher at a University in London. Now, I develop software for fun and write about AI and Data Science.
Jack Clark of Anthropic tells @lewisgoodall.com that governments need to engage with AI companies in order to shape the future use of AI.

Lewis asks thoughtful questions (without getting too much into the doom and gloom mindset of most commentators) and receives equally thoughtful answers.

This article could have been titled:

"Government rejects spending 1 billion pounds on ChatGPT".

The responses mostly assume the opposite is true and criticise the government for something it won't be doing.

AI text is weird. You can't quite put your finger on what's wrong, though.

@iandunt.bsky.social is excellent on how, as AI gets more human-like and ubiquitous, humans are in danger or becoming more like machines.

Good analysis that illustrates the total failure of Trump to stand up to Putin. Will Trump lash out after he realises he's been humiliated. Or will he just roll over and pretend this was what he always intended?

Spain is scorching! It used to be that the temperature would only reach 40ºC a couple of times a year, and then only in a few places, such as Córdoba or Sevilla. Now temperatures approaching that have become a regular event all over the country.

It's tempting to dismiss this as nonsense but Gaby Hinsliff rightly worries about how this sort of use of AI could be used in the future

When a journalist uses AI to interview a dead child, isn’t it time to ask what the boundaries should be? | Gaby Hinsliff
The virtual world can bring a kind of friendship and a kind of connection, even to the grieving. But it can also facilitate exploitation of very human needs, says Guardian columnist Gaby Hinsliff

If you’ve been struggling with bloated frameworks or steep orchestration learning curves, this article might be exactly what you need. @alanjones.bsky.social walks through how OpenAI’s Agent SDK makes building multi-agent apps refreshingly simple.

public comms on Large Language Models (AI) like ChatGPT is mainly via journalists - and most of them hate it. But then I think their job doesn't really require a lot of what is great about LLMs & it does require what LLMs are bad at (fact checking).

LLMs are more of a game changer than google was!

Disappointed with the almost totally negative response to the UK govt's plans to use AI, I wrote this to try for a bit of balance.

Interesting take on Nvidia's stock crash that is being blamed on new Chinese AI, Deekseek. Timothy Lee suggests that it was Trump's proposed tariffs on chip imports from Taiwan (where Nvidia's chips are made) that caused the problem not the AI

I don’t believe DeepSeek crashed Nvidia’s stock

The reaction to the post by @jessicaelgot.bsky.social and the piece in the Times about Keir Starmer intending to use AI in govt shows that there are a lot of people who don't get it so, I think we need to talk about AI.

But then there's no reason why not, either. I feel the need of bit of light relief.

I am naive about these things but... both Denmark and Canada are NATO members, so if they were threatened militarily by a Trump government, wouldn't other members, be obliged to defend them?
Thus the US could end up fighting itself?
