Moth trapping has been non-existent since breaking my bulb and giving up for the autumn. So this NFG Grey-Shoulder Knot was a nice chance find behind the shed lock #teammoth

Another trip to Jersey comes to a close, very enjoyable birding with 3 tern species, lots waders and Brent Geese (Inc 60 PBB), Chiffs, Firecrests. Now to fly into Storm Claudia 🫣😬

Final morning birding Jersey, highlight being what is potentially my last Wheatear of the year. Plenty of thrushes, 'crests and CC to keep me looking too. Until next month..👋

Back on Jersey, so thought it would be rude not to go birding in the easterly wind. Noirmont Point was productive with Mipits, finches (mostly Linnet, few Siskin, 2 Bramb) and small flocks of Redwing (c 40) and FF (5). Further up the road, Firecrests (3), CC and S T Treec rounded off the day nicely

Well that's the end of that 🤦 #teammoth
September 27, 2025 at 6:12 PM
First run of the trap in a while was productive with a NFG L-album Wainscot amongst the haul. Also an unseasonal Scarce Silver Lines that looked very out of place amongst it's duller cousins @sj84turner.bsky.social #teammoth

As my hero, Victor Meldrew, once said "I don't believe it". Clifden Nonpareil last night here in Fenland!! Just wow. They're huge!

More migrants, with this Delicate last night. Nice little selection with Canary Shouldered Thorn, Large Wainscot and a Rusty Dot Pearl also attracted #teammoth

My jaw hit the floor! Only one moth to talk about, Striped Hawkmoth attracted to light last night in Fenland #teammoth, @migrantmothuk.bsky.social

Back up and running after a week off, due to an incident involving the moth trap and a football 🤦. Lots of moths, inc. Clancy's Rustic, Orange Swift and an uncooperative (for photos) Rusty Dot Pearl #teammoth

My 4 year old niece found this beast in Bath, Somerset today. What a find! #teammoth Anyone know the status of DHHawk there, so I can report back?
August 23, 2025 at 6:05 PM
Had a Clouded Yellow #butterfly on the outskirts of March. Possibly the first I've seen here and I can't recall having seen one in Cambridgeshire before 🤔. No picture, but here's some bluesky for bluesky 🤦

My highlight last night, amongst the numbers here in Fenland, was this Blackneck that flew out of the trap when I was counting its commoner cousins and then didn't cooperate very well after! #teammoth

Moth interest has been ticking along here in Fenland over the last few weeks, albeit with very little variety outside the usual suspects. However this Small Ranunculus looking dapper in the morning light #teammoth

A few #moth highlights from recent trapping in my Fenland garden
July 14, 2025 at 4:36 PM
A busy moth trap this morning although I failed to get to it before the birds, ants, wasps and also a bumblebee buzzing about in there 🤦. 82:39 (minimum due to above 😅) with 3 NFG including this Four Spotted Footman 📸. Peppered Moth a nice NFY too #teammoth
June 22, 2025 at 6:02 AM
A much better night last night for moths, despite hours of rain midway through. Scarce Silver- lines, Broad-barred White both NFG and an early Clancy's Rustic, guessing no longer an immigrant here due to regularity #teammoth
June 14, 2025 at 12:08 PM
It's all about the hawkmoths this morning, including a NFG Lime which is long overdue #teammoth

Moth-trapping in Fenland has been painfully slow this spring, but an increase in both variety and numbers was very welcome last night. Pale Tussock, 📸 before release this evening #teammoth

Undertaking #badger surveys for work, I'm often told "it must be lovely to see them all the time". Truth being I see a lot of evidence (💩) but rarely see them. Therefore this one before sunrise was a pleasant encounter
May 21, 2025 at 8:44 AM
4:4 in Fenland last night, still slow, but this Chocolate-tip was NFG so can't really complain! #teammoth
April 12, 2025 at 5:51 AM
#moth trapping hasn't really kicked off here in Fenland, painfully slow. About ten moths of 3 species in March. So 3:3 last night was a "busy" start to April 🤦

Unfortunately I can't disclose location due to it being on private farmland with no access, but I bumped into a Great Grey Shrike this morning in inland Lincs (south of Lincoln). #ukbirding, @birdguides.bsky.social

The view from my home 'office' window. Seven years ago this was pea gravel and lacking in anything living. I'm pleased now to look out and see #birds (most recently a goldcrest!) and #butterflies using this small urban space. Create the habitat and the wildlife will follow...
March 18, 2025 at 1:55 PM
It's always important to retain habitat as part of any development...😆
