Issue 75 of @photoeditorial.bsky.social is now available and it's beautiful. I'm chuffed to have two articles in this issue, one on the border-related projects of Ruth Kaplan and Isabelle Hayeur, as well as one on the public Photo Walk developed by the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa.

I'm reviewing the book I made at the end of my MA in Doc Photo. The book contains many photographs and a contextual essay.

Photographed in and around Canada's House of Commons, my project points to the need to update our institutions to better meet the challenges now facing liberal democracies.

It's always great to receive another beautiful copy of PhotoED Magazine, even if delayed by Canada Post. But it's all the sweeter when you've got a byline in the issue!

Subscribe to Canada's last magazine dedicated to photography -- you'll be glad you did!

The backyard says fall has arrived in the Ottawa Valley.

I'm still processing the last two weeks, which consisted of a bookmaking workshop in Cardiff, followed by my MA Doc Photo degree show in Bethnal Green, London.

I plan to rework my book ("The Ottawa Bubble," on the writing desk) as a print-on-demand item to help keep its costs... democratic.

Very proud to be showing work at the Four Corners Gallery in London, along with the other members of my MA in Doc Photo cohort.

I will follow up with some posts of my own work, a project on the state of Canada's House of Commons.

If you're planning to be in London from Sept 11-13, grab your robes and hat and come see my project, "The Ottawa Bubble."

I'll be showing the work as part of my U. of South Wales Doc Photo MA degree show with the other members of my cohort at Four Corners Gallery in Bethnal Green, London.

My cohort is putting on our MA degree show at Four Corners Gallery in Bethnal Green, London from Sept 11–13.

If you'll be in London in mid-Sept, please plan to swing by and say hello!

In the meantime, we're prepping like mad and one of us (ahem), is praying that the Air Canada agreement holds...

Nice to have a bit of a light show while keeping an eye on the barbecue on the deck.

If you'll be in Toronto in September, plan to see my friend Ann Piche's show "I don't do math" at the D.G. Ivey Library at the University of Toronto (20 Willcocks St.) from September 25 to October 15, with a panel discussion on Monday, September 29.

Cool work with that intersects art and math!

Shhh... don't tell anyone, but the degree show for my MA in Doc Photo will be taking place at the Four Corners Gallery in Bethnal Green, London in the second week of September.

TBC, but it looks like our open house event will be on Thursday, September 11.

If you'll be in London then, c'mon out!

Another thunderstorm in Aylmer QC, another power outage. Sigh.

Hey, #Canada: democratic crisis isn't just for the neighbours.

Getting rid of first-past-the-post would be a good start, but it's just one item examined by @acoyne.bsky.social.

Our political institutions are not what we think they are: read the book, talk it up.

"The Prism of Ms. Jane Doe" opens this evening at the Ottawa Fringe. This piece has been a labour of love for my wife, Jackie McKeown, who is now a first-time playwright at the age 61, in addition to acting in the one-woman show.

Tickets at ottawafringe.com.

Come out and support local theatre!

This is the view from an immobile Train 54, an hour after we were supposed to leave Toronto.

High-speed rail would be great in Canada, but right now I'd settle for 'Speed greater than 0' rail.

Back from Bienal '25 Fotografia do Porto with lots to think about. I'll be refining my images and writing text to support creation of a book dummy and my degree show exhibition.

Just as during my public service career, it was good to escape the "Ottawa Bubble" for learning and a new perspective.

Very pleased to be showing work with the other members of my MA cohort during the Bienal Fotografia do Porto.

I'm looking at Canada's Commons during a time of questioning about the role of institutions, with my degree show in late summer/early fall.

And so it begins...

Starting the layout for installation at the Centro de Cultura Politécnico do Porto as part of the Bienal Fotografia do Porto. I'm showing work along with the members of my cohort in the MA Doc Photo program at the University of South Wales.

Counting down to Bienal '25 Fotografia do Porto, where I'll be showing work along with other members of my MA Doc Photo cohort from the University of South Wales.

If you were looking for an excuse to go to Portugal, this post is for you! 😉

Benjamin Freedman at the Stephen Bulger Gallery in Toronto during the Contact Photography Festival's book fair. Not only does Ben do cool work with CGI, but he shows remarkably good taste both in photo magazines and, it must be said... writers.

Ahem. 😉
