The UK consultation on ransomware payment bans, restrictions and reporting rests on a victim-focused theory of change: if fewer UK victims pay, then fewer criminals will target the UK.
NEW: Some big breaking(ish) news in the ransomware world. Britain will propose on Tuesday a major overhaul of how the country responds to ransomware attacks, including by banning public sector bodies from making extortion payments and requiring all victims to report incidents to the government.

Don’t know which department pre-briefed this speech by Pat Macfadden but top lines are back to old days of cyber hysteria, crossing the line from encouraging preparedness to doing Russia’s job for it by painting UK power grid and CNI as defenceless. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...
