If it were just about the money CBS would have looked for ways to cut costs (shorten run time, raise the temperature in the theater, etc.) not cancel a #1 show in it’s time slot (not to mention all the views the monologue gets on YouTube) www.nytimes.com/2025/07/18/u...

Is it just me, or does violence at protests always seem to escalate when police (or police like forces) show up? Media and politicians tell us they are going to de-escalate the situation, but they always seem to escalate the violence and destruction. (Note: this observation is US specific)

Trump told reporters at the White House that the protesters in Los Angeles “are insurrectionists.” That’s false. January 6 was an insurrection, this is a protest. But by using that language, he may be laying the groundwork to invoke the 1807 Insurrection Act.

Absolutely ashamed and disgusted to see this happening again and again. These events are going to drive international students and academics out of the U.S… and it’s going to be the U.S. that suffers. Beyond that, what crime have they committed? Free speech?
I can't overstate how terrified the members of our academic communities are now. The video of Rumeysa Ozturk, a Tufts student, being surrounded by MASKED ICE officers, cuffed, and hauled away shakes me to my core. And then I passed ICE vehicles parked near our campus this morning ...

The real threat to national security are those running the county. Imagine if instead of Goldberg they included a foreign national, or someone who didn’t mind inferring with their plans?
From an operational security perspective, this is the highest level of fuckup imaginable. These people cannot keep America safe.
