Today, I am officially in my late 20s. Also, as of Saturday, I am now a father

This is the most exhausted I’ve ever been on my birthday, so unlike most years I actually feel older

THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME is now out wide, so resharing this!
I’ve been wanting to write this one for a long time, and a second-watch eureka moment with THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME pushed me to finally do it!

Wes Anderson is maybe my favorite filmmaker. I have a theory about why his movies look the way they do

Wes Anderson's Style Has Always Been Substance, And I Can Prove It
Style over substance isn't a thing for Wes.

This has comments that are… actually nice? Is the apocalypse here already?
Managed to do a little non-review writing on what I think MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING is really about (and it explains all that stuff in the first hour)

Attended a special 20th anniversary screening of CORPSE BRIDE last night, with character designer Carlos Grangel in attendance. One of my wife’s favorites, and now she has her own Emily from the guy who created her with Tim Burton

Rarely has my husband stock been higher

I wrote a very mixed review of FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH for @screenrant.bsky.social - definitely the most annoyed I've ever been about having to decide whether something is "Fresh" or "Rotten" in RT's system, that's for sure

Fountain Of Youth Review: I’m Glad This Movie Was Made, But I’m So Frustrated It Wasn’t Made Better

Is there anyone else out there who prefers MICKEY 17 to SINNERS? Or am I on my own on this one?

This isn’t usually how I spend my workday, but I talked to an economist about Trump’s proposed 100% tariff on movies produced abroad. Turns out, it makes as little sense as you think it does!

Wrote this back in March, when I saw DREAMS (SEX LOVE) for its Italian release, and I'm glad it's finally surfaced. I felt good about it as soon as I finished, and those come along rarely enough that they shouldn't sit on the shelf. Plus, it's a really lovely movie!

Finally got to see BLACK BAG! Release schedule differences can be a pain sometimes, but Soderbergh being here in Milan to talk about the movie really made up for the wait

Very glad I could review BLACK MIRROR’s new season for SR! Truly a formative show for me, and I jumped at the chance to write about it. Turns out, though, doing a full-season review of six independent stories is actually kinda hard 😅

I really think your response to MICKEY 17 is determined by whether you vibe with its sense of humor. If you can’t lock onto the initial tone, the way the rest are calibrated won’t feel quite right
March 11, 2025 at 8:00 AM
Out in theaters today, go see it!!
Here's a look into my week of review whiplash...

MICKEY 17 is great. It might be weird and have a dark sense of humor, but I think Bong has made a pretty easily digestible sci-fi movie, with a ton of interesting ideas buried inside it. I also laughed a lot
