I was actually kidding - someone from down south who comes up and sees thousands of vehicles "plugged in" in the winter can at first glance think we're all driving electric vehicles :) :) :)

I suppose Whitehorse competes with Fairbanks for the title of "Electric Car" capital of the world! :)

I think this is a great reminder - maybe worthy of mention in a future newsletter :) - of the 3D nature of the weather system. Like others, even though I knew better, I fell into the assumption that it ain't going to snow much in these cold temperatures. Yet, it's so obvious when you describe it.

Just ordered two of these - I used something similar when we lived in hills, and it worked down to -43.8F a couple of winters ago (that's the coldest we ever saw). Nice because the battery stays inside, so you just need to be able to run the wire out somewhere.

I bought two Wally World specials - the spring type, utterly useless. At -30F, one reads -40F, the other reads -12F. I've since learned that mercury freezes at -38.2F, so need to get one with alcohol. I can only find them online. In next reply I'll point out another type I've tried, and ordered

I recall taking the TGV between Paris and Genoble 25 years ago. It was interesting, but I just didn't like all that beautiful scenery going by so fast.

That's not the one on Chena Pump is it? Doesn't quite look like the right surroundings. But, the one on Chena Pump was also showing 40 below this morning.

I have an extremely small bucket list, I've been blessed with so many cool opportunities. But, one big thing I want to do is see M31 "live" through a telescope.

A little more detail - just looking at the GFS - ECMWF is similar. Pretty windy and gusty later on Friday as we go to warm, precip, then cold again. Seems like a possible recipe for power outages followed by bitter cold. Always a bit of a concern, but could be worse.

To get my 50th, Hawaii, I had to arrange a workshop in Maui in January 2002. Oddly, those in the western EPSCoR states were eager to attend! :)

As always, just a bit too soon.

You're a good person, and what you did was appropriate. I think anything more would have accomplished nothing more. The key is not to satisfy your anger, but to simply indicate that their behavior is repugnant. You did that. You should read about stoicism. You might like it :)

Have you been to most of the 50 states now? Rhode Island is often a tough one. My wife finally sacked that one in October.

I fully agree. Some of my best memories are trips heading up there from Montana in the 1980's, in mid January after the Christmas rush was over, experiencing wonderful solitude in the backcountry. Banff and Jasper were at their best.

-20C would be a bit of a relief from our -32C (and getting colder) in Fairbanks. But even that temperature supports a "glorious escape." :)

I stayed near the Hietzing U4 stop some years ago for a couple of weeks, and really loved the area, going for runs through Schönbrunn, etc. Also nice path for running from there to Hütteldorf. What I loved most was taking Tram 60 down to Rodaun area. It was so beautiful and peaceful down there.

Moltes gràcies! Encantat de conèixer-te :) I don't remember much more Catalan than that. I haven't been since 2016.

Here is a picture I took near Refugi d'Amitges (near Espot) on a visit in October 2011.

I love your pictures. I have been to Besalú!! I have friends in Manresa that I've visted several times, and have enjoyed Catalunya immensely :)
