They may be looking to use a loophole they created in United States v. California. Specifically, they crafted their own state regulations to reflect the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. The court basically said they could do this only so long as nothing was binding.

I remember when Rand Paul attacked a research group for "unboiling an egg", then it turned out to be a proof of concept for materials and drugs synthesis.

Having family and neighbors voice the opinion that Trump should be "The Infinite President", seeing foreign students and advocates harassed by both LEOs and individuals, and seeing academic programs slashed to the point they shed students, this looks a lot like an idiot stuck in an ivory tower.

This is merit?

They can negotiate with Iran, but not with El Salvador?

The effectiveness of "whataboutism" lies in tying up an adversary's resources. It very well be used against political narratives in the same means as fire can be used to fight fire.

"What would Nixon do?" now seems to be the official strategy of the Trump DOJ.

I thought it was back in July when SCOTUS granted ambiguous degrees of immunity to the office of the president. Dems didn't do anything then because they had neither a plan nor spine. I doubt they have anything but hope now.

That's still not even close to what OpenAI is spending, and what people seem to miss is their improvements on RL. That development is already seeing replication. They've brought ML research that required the capital of a nation-state down to that of a university. The moat is obliterated.

You're straw manning. The claim I made is that democrats are not infallible, though they are profoundly incompetent and arrogant about that fact. This alienates even minorities who might be better served by their policies, if democrats could in fact enact them permanently.
January 31, 2025 at 8:30 PM
If it were segregation, how'd democrats lose so many minority voters to begin with? Doubling down on a narrative that didn't inspire to begin with sounds like a terrible strategy. Throw in that Trump tried to rig the 2020 election and there's no reason to believe democracy is getting us out.

Democrats lost ground amongst each racial minority last election cycle. I would have thought that would have given them some humility, but wow.

You're talking with hindsight bias. Surely they taught you about that as an undergrad.

Fascism can be handled with politics? I mean, Neville Chamberlain thought so, but it didn't turn out to well for him.
January 30, 2025 at 8:28 PM
Are you advocating for overthrowing the federal government or adding a hashtag on social media? Because if a government is willing to commit an actual genocide, I'm pretty sure lobbying them isn't going to stop it.
January 30, 2025 at 8:24 PM
If it's fascism, the proper response is revolutionary war. If it's not, it's democratic process. Pick one and stick with it.
