Today marks World Human Rights Day, and the 77th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each day, human rights defenders work tirelessly to ensure that their communities are able to live the promise of the Universal Declaration, and we proudly support them.

We are deeply saddened by the death of Blanca Martínez, director of longtime AJWS partner Fray Juan de Larios. Blanca was a leader in the movement to end disappearances in Mexico and support the families of the disappeared. May her memory be a blessing and a revolution. #HastaEncontrarles

Together with 18 international organizations, we announce an independent observation on the justice processes in Guatemala. The Expert Panel will monitor all stages, from the call for proposals to the final appointment, and will issue recommendations to strengthen transparency and impartiality.
