I think we all innately know that sound and emotion are strongly connected. Look at music, it has so much to do with feelings of all types from boundless joy to the deepest despair.
Go to happy songs include: Stay Up Late (Talking Heads), I Just Want to Celebrate (Rare Earth) and Kiss (Prince)

I'm a big fan of functional pottery. And, that includes salt and pepper shakers. I'm not a collector but I do have a few artistic ones. This set from the late 60's certainly represents my interest in space.🚀

On the 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 ™ today, we are enjoying this fun piece. I come from a family of storytellers so a friend made me this storytelling bear sculpture to celebrate that. Inspired by the storytelling sculptures of the Pueblo, I love that it is a nod to the bears found here in the Great Smoky Mtns.

I'm not a fan of scary movies. Young Frankenstein is more my speed.
What do you find most scary? The lighting? Jump scares? The silences? The music?
I know the ominous music totally works for me...I mean, if you heard that music would you go down into that dark basement alone?? Happy Halloween! 🎃

Art delights, surprises, entertains, challenges, and more. Today's 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 ™ is sheer delight and surprise. A gift, it was just waiting for me to notice it upon returning from a trip. Owls are special and this piece lets me celebrate them as well as a good friend. #TinyArtTour

Today's stop on our 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 ™ is near the kitchen. This plastic brick piece was in a holiday stocking one year and is the spitting image of Dashiell, who shared the house with us. We miss him a lot but enjoy having him around in this form to make us smile. #TinyArtTour

I don't think I would enjoy hearing the world's loudest shout. But, I do know how variation in volume and pitch can make speech more interesting...for example, in e-learning, audiobooks or other narration. As a professional voiceover artist, that is something I continually practice and study.

Today on 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 ™, here's something I made! This is a clay piece made from a clay slab. I haven't mastered the throwing wheel so that will have to wait a bit. Using stamps, sticks and a knife, I created this celtic inspired piece that I see each morning!

This piece hangs in my hallway and is a work by my father-in-law. He taught himself sculpture after he retired and I so admire him for doing that. Most of his pieces are stone and are larger. But, he worked with wood, which is the media for this. I am happy to share it on the 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿 ™.

Our brains are amazing things! Even stroke victims who cannot speak can often sing.

I may have found my calling as the voice of 80 year old women in space! Fun role and I'm looking forward to the release of @dustwalkerpod.bsky.social soon.

I was fortunate enough to know and remember one of my great-grandmothers - a tough Appalachian woman who used to tell wonderful stories. I inherited a number of ceramic pieces from here and still have this one to remind me of her and my family connections.

Here on today's 𝙏𝙞𝙣𝙮 𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧™, we find this little sentinel watching me while I take care of the laundry. This wooden figure is from Kenya. I haven't been there but I know folks who have 🌍

I wish I knew more about the artist. I just know that she makes me smile when I enter the room.

Today's Techy-Feely Fact: The human voice is capable of expressing over 7000 different languages and dialects!

The human voice is amazing in how it can convey our emotions, intentions, information and connection.

Now you know what voiceover artists are doing every day!!

This week on our 𝙏𝙞𝙣𝙮 𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧™ brings us to a piece created by my sister-in-law, a retired art teacher. Her work with reclaimed/recycled objects is always so fun and delightful. I love this spice container based insect with its whisk tail and bottle cap eyes. Just waiting for it to take flight!

Today's stop on our 𝙏𝙞𝙣𝙮 𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧™ is back in my office where I collect art from my travels and gifts from friends and family who travel. These two kitties are made from antique Japanese kimono silk. I have family who lives in Japan so we will have more Japanese art on the tour, don't worry! 🎌

I value laughter very much! This makes sense to me that laughter came before speech.
Got any good jokes to share?

On this US Labor Day, I wanted to show a labor of love for 𝙏𝙞𝙣𝙮 𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧™. After my mom died, my sister spent several evenings knitting these hearts as a way for her to decompress and find some peace. It was a surprise from her and I treasure it.

Today's stop on the Tiny Art Tour™, is in the living room with a small wooden sculpture of a cat and its kitten lives. I don't know the artist for this piece but it was given to me by my mom - who was a fierce mom who was protective of her kittens.

Have you ever explored the use of tones for relaxation? I have an app that generates tones to calm or energize your thinking but I haven't used it enough to discern an effect. I guess I need to do more testing.

Today on the Tiny Art Tour™, we are in my office. First up, a carved set of hiking boots from a friend I have known since I was in high school. She is one of the most creative souls I know and these boots remind me of summer camp as well as our friendship.

Next stop on the Tiny Art Tour™ is my desk. We will start with a, shall we say, motif. This wooden flying rabbit is one of two. Flying rabbits started appearing in the house a number of years ago for good luck and, since they are rabbits, they kept multiplying.

My first experience with hearing a theremin was in the original Star Trek series theme song. That haunting slide really did sound out of this world to little me. Live Long and Prosper! 🖖

Next up on our Tiny Art Tour™ is a piece made by my brother with his 3d printer which he then hand painted. I love it! This piece lives in my VO booth to make sure The Force is always with me while I'm recording.

Here we are for the first stop on our Tiny Art Tour 🖼️ This is the piece that inspired me to start this series. You don't have to be a capital A "Artist" to be creative...cook, dance, paint, scribble, hum, design, write, McGyver something. How are you being creative these days?
