I must admit I had (naively) believed Duffy could be an ok Sec of Transportation pick, but if his first reaction to two horrifying plane crashes is to direct his ire to DEI...

Through anti-displacement efforts, we can make sure that projects serve the communities correctly.

The use case of these roads have changed. It's time that we adapt it to best serve all users. More pedestrian facilities, parking bays, narrow roads. That's the path forward for this enclave, imo.

Gentrification is an issue, but it doesn't have to be a guaranteed side effect of road reconstruction.

It's a valid concern in most places, but probably less for a neighborhood that is already pretty trendy and popular, especially with (let's face it) middle-class white folk.

I think it's because they're actually only really concerned about their parking access and getting displaced by gentrifiers. Not the people actually experiencing the neighborhood.

The city is right. It's an accessibility nightmare that is extremely excluding to those with mobility issues.

I frequently visit this enclave.

The artists are right, the narrow and bumpy streets lead to slower cars and more space for pedestrians to walk ON the street.

How can they contend with that fact AND also advocate against the project because they need "parking"?

That's why strategies like the St. Paul program hiring homeless people to clean up light rail stations is so powerful.

“Everyone who travels and works on our system deserves to have an experience that is consistently safe, clean, and welcoming,”

Homeless Minnesotans hired to clean Metro Transit light rail stations in St. Paul
A pilot program launched earlier this year was recently expanded to pay unhoused workers to pick up litter at Metro Transit Green Line stations in St. Paul.
