If there is such a thing as god and a devil, the devil must be laughing his ass off at how easy it is to get humans to do his work in "God's" name.

Organized religions provide a convenient framework for controlling people, making them subservient to those who claim to speak in "god's" name. It's easy to get people to accept the unacceptable when it is framed as God's will. It becomes easy to force their view on others if "God is on their side"

How did it go unnoticed? Take a culture of punishing and shutting down any discussion of sexuality, victim blaming, blind confidence in political, business, and spiritual leaders that leads to people siding with the predators instead of the victims. It's no surprise that most victims keep quiet.
