The APPR is the floor, not the ceiling.

The APPR does not relieve the airline from liability under the Montreal Convention, Article 19.

Air Canada must obey the law and honour its commitment to reimburse passengers for their meals, accommodation, and out-of-pocket expenses incurred during the strike.

The response below disingenuously sidesteps liability for expenses under the Montreal Convention, Article 19.

AIR CANADA MISINFORMATION ALERT

The email below misrepresents passengers' rights to a rebooking under the APPR.

* "5 days" should read "48 hours"

* "same or lower cabin" should add "unless only higher class was available on the next available flight"

* delete "same origin"

MISINFORMATION ALERT: CBC

Regrettably, CBC has been regurgitating Air Canada's press release. This is inaccurate.

1) Under the APPR, AC must rebook passengers on competitor airlines if it cannot rebook them on their own.

2) The Carriage by Air Act provides more protection.

Did you receive such a message from Air Canada?

If so, DO NOT take a refund.

Instead, search for alternative flights on your own, and buy a new flight WITHOUT accepting a refund -- then make Air Canada pay for the costs of your new flight.

WESTJET SCAM ALERT: WestJet was selling "premium" seats on flights that had no such seats at all.

If you were a victim of this scam, you are entitled to a refund of the fare difference.

Refund means cash, not credit.

Proposed Air Passenger Protection Regulations amendments perpetuate key loopholes:

* no $$ for "unforeseeable technical defect"

* narrow definition of "denial of boarding"
