Okay, forgot to post anything for a while again. So why not my review of the new NFO? On repeat listens, it may be in their Top 3 for me
The Night Flight Orchestra - "Give Us The Moon" - Everything Is Noise
The Night Flight Orchestra comes soaring back from turbulent times with the glorious AOR of "Give Us The Moon".

Solid reason to be happy when one of my favorite bands survives the passing of a key member and still delivers the goods in abundance. Welcome back, NFO

I regularly forget I exist here, but hey, might as well come back to share my latest review! Uulliata Digir is some very cool new avant-garde metal.
Uulliata Digir - "Uulliata Digir" - Everything Is Noise
Uulliata Digir stake their place in the avant-garde metal landscape in style with their excellent self-titled debut.

Screw it, my top albums of 2024. Top 5 are solidly organized, list gets looser as it goes.

Did a new review! These cold, frosty mornings are for black metal, and Ungfell is some of my favorite from 2024.
Ungfell - "De Ghörnt" - Everything Is Noise
Ungfell deftly scales the snowy summits in search of a colder approach to folkloric black metal on "De Ghörnt".

Been a while since I hit up this bad boy. Their following couple albums went harder on the deranged atmospheric sections, but this debut's frenetic blend of Codex Necro-esque black metal with skin crawly industrial atmospheres is still an absolute blast.

Commute listening: throwback to the end of high school, when I was first getting into extreme metal. This album was one of the most impactful I stumbled upon back then, and it remains near flawless. Still one of USBM's absolute finest.

New review! Felt real good hearing an old favorite band back at it again.
An Axis of Perdition - "Apertures" - Everything Is Noise
After a long slumber, An Axis of Perdition twitches and contorts back into life for the skin-crawling descent of "Apertures".

Shouting this bad boy out because I love 70's prog and death metal, and this is an outstanding blend of both. Kinda the even more prog answer to the new Blood Incantation

Commute listening: missed it last year, but I figured I should brush up before the Devastation on the Nation Tour. What can you say, it's Suffocation, and they're revered in tech/brutal death circles for a damn good reason even three + decades in.

Commute listening: the growls are back, but Opeth keeps rolling with their metalized dad prog trajectory. And honestly, I do really dig it. Not quite the full return of the death metal backbone I may have dreamed (hopelessly) of, but Opeth is Opeth, and I very much this album for what it is.

Some of these became favorites around released, others were later down the line, but it does the job

Commute listening: compilations are kinda cheating, but I'm pretty unfamiliar with Ian Dury & the Blockheads. Turns out, I love this stuff. Great post-punk with a ton of outside influence from, like, 50's rock, disco, reggae, musicals, and whathaveyou.

Defeated Sanity - "Chronicles of Lunacy" - Everything Is Noise
Defeated Sanity once again breaks necks and brains alike on the punishing, yet cerebral, "Chronicles of Lunacy".

Commute listening: the recently released fifth album from Duster. Their stripped-down, spacey slowcore sound still hits great, feeling plenty somber but with some warmer rays of light cutting through. Very good low-key listening.

Shouting out my morning commute listen: 40 Watt Sun is one of the best in the current slowcore business, and Little Weight Only further reinforces that. Sparse yet deeply moving, and Patrick Walker's voice always tugs the heartstrings.
