Der kluge Hofnarr 1 Es war einmal ein König, der hatt‘ ein stolzes Ross, das war seit manchen Jahren sein treuester Genoss; In Kriegs- und Friedenstagen, Beim Kämpfen und beim Jagen, Beim Rennen und beim Schlagen Ritt er das eine bloß. 2 Doch einst zur bösen Stunde, da ward das Ross so krank, Es wirkten nicht die Säfte, die Salben nicht zu Dank; Den König tät dies plagen, Ließ stündlich nach ihm fragen, Und bald musst man ihm sagen, Es daure nicht mehr lang. 3 Und als er dies vernommen, ward er vom Zorne rot: „Und wer zuerst es saget, mein treues Rosss sei tot, Der soll sich bess‘ nicht freuen, Nein, bitter wird’s ihn reuen, Ich lass ihn tüchtig bläuen, Ja ihn von Dienst und Brot.“ 4 Nicht lang, das Ross sank nieder, da wars ein arger Schreck, Es wollt es keiner melden, vom Dienst wollt keiner weg; „Ei“, sprach der Narr mit Lachen, „Was sind denn das für Sachen? Ich will das Ding schon machen!“ Und geht zum König keck. 5. „Wie geht es meinem Rosse? Mein‘ Ungeduld ist groß!“ „Es geht recht gut Herr König, nur deucht mir eins kurios: Es steht nicht und es lauft nicht, Es frisst nicht und es sauft nicht, Es wiehert nicht es schnauft nicht, Ich weiß nicht was da los.“ 6 Darauf der König wieder: „Dann ist das Ross ja tot! Du hast’s zuerste gekündet, das bringt Dir große Not; Dich pack ich bei den Ohren: Den Dienst hast Du verloren, Ich habs einmal geschworen, Und fest steht mein Gebot.“ 7 „Mit Gunsten, mein Herr König, jagt Euch nur selber fort! Ich hab es nicht gemeldet, Ihr spracht zuerst das Wort, Den wolltet Ihr ja jagen, Der es zuerst würd sagen; Wir durften es nicht wagen, Ich und die Andern dort.“ 8 Der König senkt die Stirne und lacht: „Der Spaß war fein! Und hätt‘ ich nicht schon einen, Du sollt’st mein Kanzler sein. Da hast Du zwanzig Heller, Geh in den nächsten Keller Und trink dort Muskateller, Auch andern guten Wein.“

Trump WH has ordered CDC scientists to retract all papers under submission to medical journals containing banned terms— must be scrubbed from manuscripts, including even basic words like “gender”. Retraction even applies to accepted papers in press for imminent publication.
