Nope, straight to the cortex! So just one synapse between environment and cortex for olfaction 🤯 consensus is that when olfactory system evolved, the thalamus was not around yet. Lots of integration with other brain areas once in the olfactory cortex though

The rest of neuroscience (and science) is pretty cool, too 🤓so my other life is as a science writer. I get to talk to all kinds of scientists about science, and write stories about it!
