It was an absolute privilege to represent @cambridgeuni.bsky.social at the Global Young Scientists Summit in Singapore this week 🌞 #gyss

We've established I'm a fan of neurons breaking textbook neuron rules, so it was fun to dive into the world of C. elegans -- they only have 300 neurons, so they've got to act weird to make things work!

C. elegans Have Special Multi-sensory, Multitasking Neurons for Movement
The PVD neurons in these worms sense touch and proprioception simultaneously.

Join the club! 👃
Some reasons to love olfaction: (1) lots of regeneration in the mammalian system! (2) full of weird neurons, eg no axons and co-transmitters (3) veeeery plastic (4) so ancient it bypasses the thalamus
Seeing many new #olfaction researches on Bluesky, nice! I made a starter pack for researchers and groups studying the sense of smell or taste. If you want to get added let me know.

@cambraincns.bsky.social made it to Bluesky! Are you in Cambridge and a fan of neuroscience? If so, this one is for you ⤵️
Hi Bluesky 👋

CamBRAIN, the Cambridge Neuroscience Society, brings together early careers researchers working/interested in, neuroscience across the University of Cambridge.

Join us for pub talks, panel evenings, outreach opportunities, and much more...

Time to start again 🦋 I'm Ailie!

Regeneration is cool, so I study the olfactory system where both the sensory neurons and many of the interneurons keep regenerating. I'm doing my PhD at @elisagalliano.bsky.social's lab in Cambridge.

I love neurons so much that sometimes, I paint them on my face.
