On what'd be the 102nd birthday of Billy Wright, first footballer to win 100 caps - my Mum's tribute to *her* Mum's lifelong love: aidanrad.blogspot.com/2020/01/reme... And a few fond words from Billy's own Joy, about that gentleman giant...

Well, it was 33 years ago today: pleasure for the first time here of rushing out to buy a Macca LP (well, cassette) on release day - alternately-fluffy, -rocking, -sumptuous "Off The Ground". Other buys around that time: singles, gig ticket, chords book... youtu.be/0BlK7sx6syo

Sir Bill Nick: "It's magnificent to be in Europe and this club, a club like Tottenham Hotspur, if we're not in Europe, we're nothing." Eintracht keep conceding three, eh...oh. Any chance we can put Glenn Hoddle on the field or at least in the dugout? youtu.be/EhNyx_fn1tg #COYS

T&C apply. Finally caught Turner vs Constable, sorry, Turner and Constable at the Tate. Appreciated the sketchbook-attached former before and now the latter more than before, sharp beauty to his rival's more diffuse horizons. While both immense whether, say, Hampstead or Dudley and more such scenes.

Ah, Nineties nostalgia ever returns and reigns. Not only cheering Man Utd goals vs that title-chasing/hopefully-bottling-anew south London lot, but also drably strugging Spurs. Oh, for a shaft of light in darkness. On which note - happy 59th, toujours magnifique David Ginola... youtu.be/E789WeDUS24

"Ah, it makes me cry!" Same, "Waterloo Sunset" descent/crescendo. Songs chronology obviously all over the shop but emotionally so. Soppy at times, pointed others, on the nose too (Paul'n'Linda, John'n'Yoko, knighthood nods) but just joyous. Big sha-la-la.

Recommend the last week of a very limber "The Little Mermaid" at Newcastle-under-Lyme's New Vic. Post-Christmas shows there ever an impressive spectacle if not necessarily best committed when it comes to plots. Ah, an alternative to Tottenham this weekend. Not waving but drowning.

What a momentous date September 5 is - not only the birth of Tottenham Hotspur in 1882, but also The Muppet Show's UK premiere in 1976. A motley troupe whose slapstick antics, duff jokes and behind-the-scenes chaos have entertained generations, and (here we go) the Muppets. #COYS

Bought this way back when (albeit a decade after their sudden split), and not too far from (A Bomb In) Wardour Street, primarily for the chords - yet kept coming back too to the cuttings. "Only" six years and yet an immense record of records. A mighty band, suitably mighty drummer. RIP Rick Buckler.
