I don't even understand why anyone would write that, considering how easy it is to find individuals who do marvel at what LLMs can do, and who do care (a lot) about truth.

This is not just nitpicking. By invoking 'terrorism', they activate those who were taught that everything goes to in the War on Terror, who won't have any patience for people trying to explain to them that killing people outside of war or legally mandated justice is just murder.

To be fair, the piece does say, for many of its protagonists, WHY they're not here anymore, and it goes into the details of who supported Eppstein and how, knowing that he was a sex offender. "Lost" is certainly an unfortunate choice of word, but it's not an article about the good old days.
