At first, Ziz LaSota seemed much like any other philosophically inclined young tech aspirant. Now, she and her followers are in jail, six people are dead, and Rationalists are examining whether their ideas about A.I. played a role.

This is a very very good take on how to actually fix streaming services, from a very good series currently running in

“I am begging these companies to hire some people who love movies. Or have watched a movie.”
I hate streaming app UX.

Instead of taking 10 seconds to steal a great artist's life's work with a prompt, Heavy Metal staffers spent 15 minutes to honor him.

Care to share a Miyazaki portrait or human made Ghibli fan art of your own? He's inspired us all!

We need a uniformed service branch for emergency disaster and climate response and rebuilding, and we need it yesterday.
Reading about the shortage of firefighters in LA and already seeing help from as far as Canada makes me think about the countless times fire crews have come here from all over the world to support us. (& we have sent ours in return!) As climate emergencies increase...it's harder to spare personnel.

Been waiting months for this amazing book by @natedimeo.bsky.social and it has not disappointed. And no that totally wasn't me crying in the grocery store when I got to the end of this chapter on the audiobook.
Go forth and get yourself a copy!

For the @nytimes.com I wrote about how Enough is Enough with the incumbent president and his cabinet of folly and let’s stop coddling Trump voters and be real clear-eyed about what lies ahead. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/17/o...
Opinion | Enough
To suggest we should yield even a little to Trump’s odious politics is unacceptable. Even if we did, it would never be enough.

it is bizarre how much this pretty basic fact is just like overlooked in the climate finance discussions: private finance requires being paid back
