Apparently, it’s socially unacceptable to compare anyone or anything to Hitler.
Mention Hitler, and you’ll be shouted down with a chorus of “Godwin’s Law”.
Well sod that.
Until we start comparing Trump to Hitler, we’re unprepared for what is barrelling towards us. 🧵1/4

Obviously, ALL authoritarian leaders try to control the media - through a combination of censorship and self-censorship. But beyond this trivial point, there is no "authoritarian handbook".

The legal, media and political contexts matter a lot. And U.S. is often different.
Trump's moves against media outlets mirror authoritarian approaches to silencing dissent
Since taking office in January, President Donald Trump has waged an aggressive campaign against the media unlike any in modern U.S. history, making moves similar to those of authoritarian leaders that...

Silly people who think the meeting was about Ukraine. It was about Trump, as everything Trump does is about Trump.
Trump: I was very happy to hear him say if I was president that war would've never happened.

Trump: Vladimir said just a little while ago, I have never seen anybody do so much, so fast. He said your country is like hot as a pistol. And year ago he thought it was dead.

Orbán is in danger of losing power, and possibly going to jail (with friends and family), and he knows it. This makes him extra dangerous and means the EU should be extra vigilant the coming months.
