The Empty Chair

As we prepare our holiday feasts and set the table it is always there, the empty chair. The place that used to be occupied by someone we loved that has been lost. If this loss is recent it makes the meal and the holiday “less”. 1of3

I think it horrendous to force all the military upper echelon to one place for an obviously political puffery performative speech.... I also see a positive side. It forces these same people to see in person the rot that is leading the government. No denying it now they have experienced it in person.

This public art piece titled Modern Communication, by artist Terry Allen was installed in downtown Kansas Citty, MO in 1995. It has always been controversial but less so since it has been relocated (due to construction) to less prominent locations. It has always been a favorite of mine.

I made terrible mistake watching the hearings this morning and now my health sciences soul has been permanently traumatized. At 74 I don't think I will live long enough for it to be repaired.

In 1966 Star Trek debuted with a vision of earth moved beyond war and inequity. One of the plot devices was an alternate reality, darker than the familiar. It was authoritarian, fearful, and cruel versions of themselves. Time for our writer to use any contrived device to return us to normality.

Reading this makes me physically ill. Archivist, historians, curators, and librarians are valued keepers of knowledge, guaranteeing that it is available to all. A free society requires the facts.

As to the Colbert/CBS thing.... The good news is that unlike the Smothers Brothers back in 1969, there are a gazillion opportunities now to get the message out and he can't be blackballed by a mere 3 national networks.

UNEMPLOYED LIBRARIAN

Will do evidence-based searching for gift cards.

Yep, I have become a victim of the current political/financial climate. My library has been closed and after 20 years of dedicated service I have been unceremoniously kicked to the curb.

How does a wyt woman honor Juneteenth? I am reading this book. I'm an OG feminist from the 60s - 70s. Recently I realized my ignorance when I started to look for the Black female voice in the movement. I discovered it was there all along from the 19th century but it had been surpressed by wyt women.

I protested and marched for nearly the same issues in the 60s and 70s but we did not continue our vigilance and engagement. So here we are doing it all over again in our golden years. I hope lessons are being learned today.

Read the first two sections of this legal analysis of what's in the Big Beautiful Bill passed by the House - campaignlegal.org/update/these... It's really bad.

I am thinking about refugee/immigrant mothers. Those that have risked everything to come to this country for security and a future for their children. I honor them, their struggles and their sacrifices .

I remember May Day as a kid. We made decorated cones with handles out of construction paper at school. On the way home I detoured through the woods picking sweet william to fill them up. I'd hang them on my neighbors doors, ring the doorbell and dash. For my mom too. Those were innocent times.

The Declaration of Independence has a list of grievances against the British king. I thought I'd review them.
