UNLUCKY MEL, a feminist revenge narrative, comedy, and campus novel. Gold medal winner IPPY award. Short story/CNF writer (McSweeneys, MQR, Confrontation, etc), pet mom, foodie, gardener. PhD in Eng/CW. Assoc Dir of FYW at BU. https://angiepelekidis.com/
Absolutely loved seeing Unlucky Mel included in BU Magazine’s spring issue as part of the latest releases! But you’d think my alma mater might know that I also received my Ph.D there in 2012! #book #books

Was afraid that all the garlic I planted last fall didn’t make it because of the brutal winter we had but here it is popping up! And to think these approximately 325 eventual heads of garlic came from last years harvest, which means they cost me nothing. Love how garlic perpetuates itself!

Such a pleasure participating in the first Women’s Wellness Fair at the Broome County Library! The fair was created to help women prioritize their health and I was invited to share info on Unlucky Mel, which is about how women put the needs of others ahead of their creative & professional ambitions.

Not sure what pleases me more, the wonderful review of Unlucky Mel by a writer whose own novel I loved (Heading North by Holly Wendt is a terrific read) or the photo of my book next to their gorgeous grey cat!

My inner Yiayia, who survived the Nazi invasion of Greece, kept 3 of her 4 children alive during the Great Famine, was a farmer who passed along her skills to her daughter and granddaughter, is telling me to grow more seedlings, expand my garden, get more chickens. I’m listening, Yiayia Aggeliki!

There’s a display cabinet across from my office on campus that holds books written by faculty. For years I’ve hoped to have a book of mine on the shelves. Unlucky Mel made that possible! It’s just proof that if you work at your dreams consistently and frequently they may just come true.

Today I downloaded Goods Unite Us, which lets me know the political standing of companies I’m considering buying from so I can vote with my dollars. You can also submit companies that don’t appear on the app so they can be researched.

Some books I’ve assembled for my 2025 TBR list. Aiming for about two books a month because with my schedule and other pursuits, that’s about all I can manage. But hoping I’ll be able to do more. We’ll see!
