In Canada, specifically Ontario, we have the Loggerhead Shrike, which does basically the same thing. Protected species.
We're in it's summer breeding range. It migrates south for the winter.

We had Lizzy in Canadian Tire this morning. Big guy about 6'5" with tattoos on his neck bent over to rub her ears. I said "That's a long ways down for you". Him "It's ok. I've got 2 Corgis. They're my best friends". People who love dogs.....
