Learned the hard way, as in changed the starter and it still didn't start? 😬

(Apologies, literally just got a notification for this, even though you posted it on the 5th 😶‍🌫️)

Sounds like a weak battery, repeated clicking means it hasn't got enough current to throw out the starter solenoid properly. Dying starter will typically click once & then do nothing, or may make a loud high pitched whirring but not actually turn over the engine. Try jump leads, expect it'll start.

Well before my time too, think it was made in 60s bearing in mind DS came out in 55. Self levelling suspension (& headlights), speed sensitive wipers, lights that turn with steering, pity latter were only invented / 'innovated' by BMW, Mercedes, Space Karen Scalextrix et al, in the past 25 years....
