Start of the w/e leaves me upbeat. I’m really impressed by my first-year Public Law students. The seminars are special bc of the international students,who offer fresh perspectives about how constitutional principles look elsewhere, ie. Global South. I am definitely here for these kinds of spaces.

The “Legal History Works-in-Progress Workshop” @ials.bsky.social required a very early start this morning, but it was sure worth it. Super meaningful exchanges about “what is law?” and the nature of a polity presented much food for thought. More of this please.

An early start to the weekend for the Open Day. I always get a kick out of the buzz that can surround the stand suddenly, but the bonus is seeing our Law students. They do such a terrific job as Student Ambassadors talking about their studies and time Leeds Law School @leedsbeckett.bsky.social

Engaging with questions like “what is public law?” and “what is a constitution?” with first-year Public Law students is more meaningful than ever and the students are on 🔥. Friday afternoon ends on a high.

Weekend film viewing was a real treat, and thought-providing - whether it’s about redemption or fate. Two very different filmmakers, in both the characters are compelling. Monday starts with these films in my head, but that’s okay.

After what proved to be an intense build-up to hitting the submission button I think baking therapy is the best treat, so I made Prǎjitura cu mere, apple cake, thank you @irinageorgescu.bsky.social for this really wonderful recipe coming from Romania.

End of August musings are always slightly wistful as we inch closer to another AY. But I’d like to cast that & some other cobwebs away & focus on what made this summer especially nice. I rediscovered reading for pleasure, hanging around with my RAs & haystacks, which are incredibly cool & fun too.

I just love mini-excursions like today’s, that took us to the lovely gardens of Brodsworth Hall. What touched me most today was the pet cemetery, with inscriptions on the headstones that show moving tributes to creatures who were loved and whose memory lives on.
