Discovery of a bacteriophage sequence in a mite genome assembly reveals bacterial contamination and opens new possibilities for exploring arthropod symbionts
While studying the integration site of a bacteriophage associated with the bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii, we found a genome assembly of the mite Oppiella nova that contained a homologous sequence ...

We present the full story of the PPTOP vs DgiS1 phage battle using Acinetobacter baumannii bacteria as the battleground. PPTOP is a phage-plasmid that, among other weapons, carries a CRISPR-Cas I-Fa system specialized in targeting DgiS1.

Biological warfare between two bacterial viruses in a defense archipelago sheds light on the spread of CRISPR-Cas systems
Rubio et al. describe an archipelago of anti-phage systems in the opportunistic pathogenic bacterium A. baumannii. This is the battleground of two phages fighting for integration. One of them inserts a CRISPR-Cas system that prevents the other from integrating, and the other could escape by mutations avoiding the CRISPR-Cas system.
