Coming soon... a podcast from two sleepy parents who like taking about history and want to share
The proliferation of Whig, Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay chatter on here today is both vindicating my idea a few months ago to do a podcast about Whigs, Andrew Jackson, and Henry Clay, and also stressing me out that I don't feel anywhere near ready to record and release! There is always more to read!

Have been working on episodes on exactly this issue. Of course, we're cautious people so it will be a long time before we release any :)
my question for ahmari: the federal reserve is subject to democratic control — congress can, whenever it chooses, alter the terms of fed independence. how and why is the unilateral authority of the president, exercised outside of rule if law, more democratic than congress’s legitimate authority?
Trump Must Lose the Second Bank War
Henry Clay understood what was wrong with the unitary executive theory back in the 1830s.

Eric Schmitt is exactly the kind of person James Madison dreaded could one day be a Senator.

In 1801 Jefferson refused to authorize offensive naval action (defense only) against Tripoli in the Mediterranean without Congress' support. Tripoli was attacking Americans in the Mediterranean and demanding tributes to stop, and even then the third President didn't think he was empowered to attack.
once again, when pressed on where trump gets the authority to take an action, vance’s argument is, essentially, that trump is sovereign
Q: On the Venezuela vessel strike, what legal authority were you guys working under?

JD VANCE: The legal authority is there are people who are bringing -- literal terrorists -- who are bringing deadly drugs into our country

so the proposition in question is literally the text of the declaration of independence, apart from the word "proposition" being in Gettysburg. the proposition itself is only incorporated into the constitution in the reconstruction amendments

Going after "proposition" is going directly after the Gettysburg Address, pretty grim stuff

"proposition" like, say, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal? that proposition?

Abraham Lincoln: "our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

Looking back it's stunning that the GOP response to the egregious mishandling of Hurricane Katrina was to, two years to the day, select insane and incompetent Sarah Palin to be one heartbeat from the presidency.
