Last month I gave a talk on radical poetic practice at a University in Hyderabad. Feels super relevant to what’s happening this week.

Our libraries and bookstores are how we retain knowledge of our histories.
It's no surprise that when a dictatorship arises the first thing they do is burn the libraries. Shut down the universities. They want to ensure that all literature, all historical context and ideas about the history of that land are wiped out. Because it is only when the history, the literature, the poetry of a land remains can you rebuild it. writers and journalists lives are always under threat from political regimes for they write the truth.

*Would you like to try something different and perform as part of a community cast in The Engagement Party?* We are delighted to announce an opportunity for people across Oldham to be part of a community cast of performers in the creation and performances of a new production created by Oldham Coliseum and being performed at Oldham’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in February 2025 called The Engagement Party. The performance is about a young couple who get engaged and the community cast will take the roles of their friends and family. This is a voluntary role but travel expenses will be paid. Caught this amazing short ‘Born on Sunday Silent’ written by Desiree Reynolds (produced by Tyke Films). And aside from it being beautifully written it’s also unnerving. Go and find a way to watch it.

Wore a dress with watermelons on it to an event today and was terrified that someone would call me out.
Aside from a few side-eyes noone said anything.
AND I looked hawttt in the dress so
me (afshan) wearing a mid length black dress with colourful pink/green watermelons all across it.
