The 1960s got going in 1962 and lasted until late 1970
The 1970s only ran from 1973 to 1977
The 1980s started in 1979 with Thatcher and went straight into the 1990s sometime around 1989.

With 30 years hindsight I'd agree with you, but I played it to death at the time. I can't think of another album that so defined it's period that's been released during my lifetime.

Tbf it's almost 24 hours since the original post and I'm the first person to mention Oasis in the replies, so I wouldn't be surprised if no one else has name-checked Neutral Milk Hotel yet.

But...
does it have a sharp rise in quality over the first album? Maybe not, but it absolutely smashed being the perfect album at that time. It is totally synonymous with the mid-nineties.

I'm surprised no-one mentioned What's The Story Morning Glory, because (and I quote Wikipedia) it
"...propelled Oasis from being a crossover indie act to a worldwide rock phenomenon, and is seen by critics as a significant record in the timeline of British indie music."

Lovely thread Dimi. Britain ain't broken, it's a lovely place, filled with decent people who care about stuff and other people.

Welcome to the party lad, the buffet will be open in ten minutes.

How about this? TM in Birmingham opens at 4.30pm, eat a main course and get on the road to TM in Penzance, which closes at 11pm. The drive is nearly 5 hours, can you get to TM Penzance and order a curry before it closes?

The one in Birmingham is the oldest curry house in the city, opened in 1962. All this curry talk, now I fancy one.

There is a Taj Mahal in Birmingham. Can you have lunch at one and tea in the other?

...now I see Tom's post, I fear I prevented this cow from fulfilling its true potential. I'm so sorry, lovely cow.

Seems appropriate to add this:
In 2008 I protected this cow from walking along a busy, main road for an hour and a half. I was pre-smartphone, so phoned 118118 to see if they had a number for a local farm. It was an interesting call, trying to explain what I required and why...

Yeah, the BBC ain't perfect, but have you ever watched the news in the US? The NHS is another huge organisation that has its ssues too, but like the Beeb, you'll miss it when it's been destroyed by the people who keep insisting that Britain is broken.

Is there a follow up brochure where they realise that hardly any were sold in the UK? I feel like I only ever saw one on the roads.

It's a fascinating article on the thinking of 1960s planners.
