By abandoning accounts rather than deleting, social media sites would become digital squalor. Each final post with a year-old timestamp represents another broken window or boarded-up door.

And there’s something satisfying in reducing these ivory towers to slums.

To delete a social media account is to tidy a billionaire’s tech stack. By pruning yourself, you’re doing free work.

What if you just stopped using your accounts instead? What if these sites were merely seas of abandoned usernames?

It’d tell the story of something once popular, now forgotten.
