I teach PK-8 music and art. I love my spouse and my black cat. I like gnomes and mermaids and pretty much all crafts.
Counting on an "inheritance" is dead. When my grandma died, my family members all received money. But I've watched my other grandparents have to liquidate all their assets to get Medicare to pay for care, despite savings. The same will happen to my parents. We can't count on inheritance anymore.

My first year of teaching, (before the ACA), my contracted position offered health insurance. It cost $600 a month. My rent was $600 a month. My paycheck was $1200. I couldn't afford it. But because it was offered, I didn't qualify for anything else. This is why the Dems need to hold out.

I'm realizing that the symptoms I've had that have been swept aside with the phrase "You DID lose a lot of weight very quickly" should have just earned me an automatic referral to an endocrinologist. Instead I get to gasp my way through a month and a half of panic attacks and asthma while I wait.👎

My brother got married! He will be moving to Australia to be with her. I've had two people ask why she doesn't move here. She's originally from Peru. A brown immigrant right now? She'd be scooped up by ICE. And they both said "But if she does it LEGALLY..."

I've noticed a Boomer trait recently. When they decide that they DON'T want to hurt someone's feelings, they end up doing things that are much more hurtful rather than just having an honest conversation.
Sure, upfront conversations are awkward, but it hurts less than passive aggressive bullshit.🤷

This week my therapist basically told me not to worry too much about politics, because in 3 years or so, everything will swing back to normal. Usually I will take his word over mine when I'm panicking and he's trying to calm me down, but this time I think he's just fucking wrong.

Today's staff meeting will be our principal listing all of the services we will lose with the loss of the department of education. No matter how many vouchers Nebraska tries to throw at us, we won't be able to replace them. It will probably kill the school.

I can't personally stop Elon and Trump. But I can start small. I can email my state legislator. I can reference the artwork that is right outside the legislative chamber to plead for fairness here. I'm working my way up to the big representatives.
