Death by data – can there be too much of a good thing?

I’ve heard it said before for famous musicians, it is not about the notes that they do play, but the notes that they don’t. The same is true about data.

Taking the leap can certainly be challenging. I talked to some people who went through this process who helped me bust these myths and many others. If you’re thinking about making the change, reach out to others to see if your myths are false too!

I realized the part of my academic career that made me happiest was coding to solve research problems. I spent ten years solving research questions based in ecology but soon realized I’m happy to solve any science problems. No prof position could I do that primarily.

I was focused on being a prof, and before I turned 30 had 40 publications, almost 1000 citations, presented at international conferences, taught undergrad courses, and pushed for local movements at my associated university.  Many view leaving this negatively or "giving up". Not me though

New on here, so I'd like to introduce myself! I’m Alex and two years ago I made the jump from a post-doc in ecology to a corporate data science job. I love that I made this jump, but at the time, there was a lot of uncertainty. I wanted to join the chorus of others on socials to share my thoughts
