I am really struggling to rationalise these things myself. A reserve currency would naturally be strong because lots of people would want to hold it...

I don't see how anyone would accept a lower repayment on the t-bills. As the article says that is in effect a default. I have seen some talk about swapping these bills/bonds for longer terms ones but it will still kill the US credibility...

I'm not even sure that you can weaken the USD and keep it as the global reserve currency - the closest I can think about is the plaza accord but that was one country - japan - not the whole world. Also I don't see China cooperating in the same way that Japan did (never understood why Japan did sef)
